Overall Satisfaction with IBM Apptio

My team uses Apptio as a show back model to promote cost transparency to teams within my companys tech department. I look over general costs of the sub departments within tech, and the sub departments have their own teams that look into more granular details. This helps us model costs.

Pros

  • model reporting and out of the box reports
  • lineage components - ensuring that everything can be traced back to related models for the users
  • datalink and the breadth of sources it can connect to

Cons

  • tab functionality - moving things around
  • different variants of charts that model data, closer to excels functionality would be helpful
  • ways to connect datalink to sources that use two factor authentication keys like tableau
I would give it this rating because Apptio lets me use its core functions like making models and setting up data links easily, with a shallow learning curve. However, it also has some user interface issues that while minor, can build up to inconveniences when I work with the product on a daily basis.

  • Has allowed me to efficiently keep track of what drives certain costs through built in functions
  • Has allowed me to reduce data loads by up to 50%
We use data ingestion and modeling to pull together all our financial and operational info in one place. The faster budgeting and forecasting tools help us plan and adjust quickly, and the flexible analytics make it easy to see what’s working. We also rely on cost transparency and IT planning to keep spending smart.
The support team has helped me answer some basic questions about the functionality of the application. However, when it comes to issues and bugs, they might not have answer for it and just submit a ticket to their technical team. This is appreciated although the turnaround of some tickets take a while.
