Overall Satisfaction with IBM Cloud Bare Metal Servers
I have been involved with the below use cases in my experience - 1) Migrate on-prem servers/applications to IBM DC Cloud to new bare metal servers and build the Application (Lift and Shift the Custom Applications). 2) Build New Custom Applications from Scratch on Brand new LINUX bare metal servers.
Pros
- Compatible for custom Applications.
- Allows to install needed packages.
- Self install required software like oracle, tools, compliers.
Cons
- C compiler wasn't available by default.
- Sendmail feature/package wasn't available by default.
- Dependant on admins to get issues resolved.
- Able to reduce on-prem costs for client and host Applications in IBM Cloud Datacenter.
- New Applications are being built in IBM Cloud Datacenter.
- Build only needed hardware to limit the costs for Client.
Configured file systems on bare metal servers and was able to increase the size whenever required. Can limit the costs initially to understand the application demand and need. Later, have the flexibility to increase the size of the file system as the application grows bigger and bigger without any hassle.
