Overall Satisfaction with IBM Instana

Instana is directly tied into our production IT systems and the iot infrastructure. We use it to monitor the health of apps that manage machine scheduling, inventory tracking and real time quality control

Pros

  • The asset lifecycle history stores years of operational and repair data in a way that's instantly searchable
  • Visibility on live services is clean

Cons

  • I feel like alert tuning could be more context aware. Sometimes it flags spikes that are normal during specific production cycles. which means we have to manually adjust thresholds
  • We are able to stay on top of UK's compliance thanks to the historical performance data
  • Directly improves manufacturing uptime
updating service relationships in real time while production is still running
Instana now lets us run live system health checks during active production without risking disruptions, something we avoided in the past for fear of slowing the line

For us, it works the best when we are rolling out updates to our execution system and need to watch out for unexpected latencies. Instana has caught delays in our ordering routing service that would have caused prod queues to back up.
We can also quickly spot whether a slowdown is due to server resource limits or misconfigured API call to our cloud analytics
