Currently, we are using IBM Power Virtual servers for SAP HANA and Oracle databases in both our production and DR site. IBM Power Virtual servers improve the system uptime by 99.9% which helps us in our production business growth.

Pros

  • Maximum Uptime improved 99.9%.
  • Quick Deployment and configuration from HMC.
  • Easily add or remove resources like CPU and memory into virtual servers from HMC.
  • High Performance during peak business hours.

Cons

  • LPAR Profile backup.
  • HMC GUI Should be more enhanced.

I would always recommend based on my experience for heavy critical applications and databases with huge data sizes where millions of operations will run in each second always going with IBM Power Virtual servers. We easily can deploy and configure the virtual server with the required resources with help of HMC.
