Overall Satisfaction with LexisNexis Time Matters

This program is being networked for all users to share data. It is similar to Outlook in that it contains a contacts database and a calendar for all employees. We theoretically all have each other's calendars and contact information. There are many other features that can be used, but we do not use them.

Pros

  • Calendar management for multiple users
  • Contact management for multiple users

Cons

  • Search function is cumbersome
  • Should NOT require annual maintenance contracts
  • As a database, you can run a number of reports to find out which clients had certain issues, etc.
There is no unpaid support. They insist on a service contract for support, either with the manufacturer, or with a re-seller.

Do you think Time Matters delivers good value for the price?

No

Are you happy with Time Matters's feature set?

No

Did Time Matters live up to sales and marketing promises?

No

Did implementation of Time Matters go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy Time Matters again?

No

When we first started with Time Matters, there were very few other options and it fit the bill. But it didn't really progress with the times and there is now a need for synching with IPhones that was not envisioned back then. Additionally, the number of users is limited to what you purchased and it is not simple to just pay to add a user if a company grows. They MANDATE that you have a service contract which is costly and may not be necessary, and if you want to upgrade to a newer version, they insist that you pay for the contract RETROACTIVELY (!!!) without having use of it.

Full disclosure: I am a certified independent Time Matters consultant, so I am not impartial. That said I know the product very well, write about it regularly and you may find the following information useful. Time Matters subscriptions have changed since Riva wrote her review. Whereas other law practice management services charge $50, $60 or even $80 per month per user, Time Matters is now $39/mo./user (annual contract). You don't have to pay retroactively to subscribe. It is simple to add or reduce users as your firm grows or scales back. Plus you can add as many users as you want - part-time employees, law clerks, contractors, occasional users - and pay only for the maximum number who'll be logged in at any one time. If you use Office 365 or Microsoft Exchange (online or on premise), you can sync your Calendar, Contacts and Tasks with iPhones, tablets and Android phones at no extra charge. Time Matters has kept up-to-date. And you've always been able to sync with Outlook and sync Outlook with your iPhone and other smartphones by clicking the Outlook sync menu item. It is too bad that Riva's firm does not take advantage of some of Time Matters' many other features beyond the shared Calendar. They could be managing, saving and merging documents without a program like HotDocs and could eliminate paying for another timekeeping and billing system, all now included in Time Matters at $39/mo./user.
