Overall Satisfaction with Linode

Linode allows me to give dedicated VPSs to my customers to solve their web hosting, email, and other needs. I use it for hosting our own corporate email and I recommend it to others in my industry looking for economical VPSs.

  • I would like to see VPSs offered in eastern Europe and Asia.
  • I would like to see cheaper bulk storage options, similar to TransIP
  • Positive impact on being able to deploy quickly and economically.
I have used TransIP and IntoVPS. Linode scores well on most metrics except for the availability of servers in Europe and the availability of cheap bulk storage like TransIP.
I generally do not need support, but as a very experienced Linux programmer & administrator, I can tell good support when I see it. I've seen a LOT of places with horrible support, and Linode is not one of them. They have some very technically sharp people and I'm confident when I cut a ticket that their people will know how to handle it.
When I have had servers at places like Peer1/ServerBeach, I was paying 10x what I am paying at Linode. I had been a ServerBeach customer for over 10 years and I migrated my services completely off of them, to Linode, because there was absolutely nothing SB was giving me that I couldn't get from Linode for vastly cheaper, and I was getting an upgrade in the support quality.
Linode reliability has been extremely good. I've been using them for upwards of 7 years. They manage their downtime, migrations, and hypervisor upgrades very well with lots of lead time and options for doing your migrations ahead of time if needed.

For most situations, Linode is a great option. However, when I need to have a site in Eastern Europe or Asia, it's just not as good as other providers. Smaller VPS's tend to not be given higher bandwidth; it seems the cheaper your VPS at Linode, the less likely you are to get decent bandwidth. For computationally-intensive work, I might as well buy a local server.
