Overall Satisfaction with Linode

We use Linode to run, host, and serve our applications across the whole organization in targeted regions without having to have our own infrastructure.

Pros

  • Reliable
  • Simple
  • Choice of OS
  • Fast
  • Reasonably priced
  • Control

Cons

  • No out-of-the-box support for FreeBSD as an OS
  • OS images are not hardened, need security configuration manually
  • Excellent return on investment due to very reasonable and simple pricing
Red Hat OpenShift was the first product I used and it was fantastic--until they changed to a container model and kicked everyone of the previous model. From there I moved to Linode and haven't looked back. You have much more control but it does mean you need to keep on top of a lot of things.
I have never had to contact support; the articles and documentation have always been enough for me to resolve everything myself.
I find services like AWS torture to use, and so absolutely and unnecessarily complicated. Linode is a much simpler alternative with a much simpler pricing and usage model. I like the control over my own servers, the choice of OS, and the excellent features Linode provides.
