Overall Satisfaction with Linode
I use Linode to host my business website as well as custom websites for clients. I also host apps related to providing services to my customers, like network management controllers.
Pros
- Reliability.
- Technology.
- Transparency.
- Simplicity and focus.
- Support.
- Speed.
- Documentation.
- Community.
Cons
- Finding documentation relating to the specific technologies active on my account.
- Low quota for deployment images gets in the way sometimes.
- S3 compatible storage isn’t ALWAYS compatible.
- One less decision to make.
- Reliability means more time for clients.
Most of my knowledge of competing products is secondhand. Linode has never given me much reason to look elsewhere—they’ve been so competitive on price and performance. The main competitor has been on-premises or collocated servers, but those are obviously completely different product categories.
I know with Linode I’m not overpaying for infrastructure. When I need 3 servers, I’ve got 3 servers. When I need 25 servers and a couple load balancers, that’s what I’ve got until my needs or my clients’ needs change again.
For customers paying me to host websites, uptime and reliability are paramount. Planned maintenance windows are communicated well in advance, which I appreciate. In the last five years I can’t think of a customer outage that was Linode’s fault.
