Overall Satisfaction with Linode

We run a bunch of Docker images on a Linode to handle both static and dynamic websites. A single small instance runs 10 domains including nginx, PHP and MySQL. A haproxy runs in its own Docker container on the same node and exposes websites to the internet. All other nodes are only accessible from haproxy.
  • Self-service computing resources.
  • Stable environment for virtual servers.
  • Minor gripe: The DNS manager should communicate how long it will take for information to update. UX of that tool could be better.
  • Reliable uptime has us not worry about missing customers.
For other jobs I worked with both AWS and GCP and they both are mind-boggling complex in comparison. You have a running machine on Linode by the time you just started reading what services you need to activate for your project in AWS / GCP. This also makes the pricing of Linode very transparent and simple to understand.
I only needed to contact support once, and that was years ago. The reply was quick and helpful. Linode communicates actively and well in advance when they e.g. need to move my node to a different machine and warn me of the short downtime.
For the low price of a few dollars a month, we get a reliable and performant server and DNS setup. We don't use much of the additional cloud features because we have no need for them.
We need our customers to see the offers and book trainings at any time of the day. As a small business we can't afford to have an engineer on call constantly. Thanks to Linode just working, this works well.
Linode seems a very good choice if you need your own server but don't want to spend lots of money or dig into the complexity of things like AWS or google computing cloud. You simply get your virtual Linux box with web access that has a very reasonable capacity.

I would not recommend Linode if you are no developer and want a managed version of e.g. WordPress or some other standard application.
