Overall Satisfaction with Marketo

Marketo is used only by our marketing department with one user. It allows us to segment leads and send automated, personalized messages to them based on their profile characteristics and behavior.
  • It is very versatile. Any way that you want to use the platform, there is usually some way to do it.
  • There are tons of missing functionalities that should be no brainers. See this blog post for all of them: https://nation.marketo.com/thread/30031
  • The platform is incredibly slow. I would say about 30% of my time using Marketo is just waiting for data to load.
  • A/B Testing and the Champion/Challenger functionality needs to be greatly improved. They launched it but haven't improved it since. When A/B testing, there's no way to see if the results are statistically significant enough to determine a winner. I also can't see simple email performance metrics for each variation of the test - I have to pull the data and do that on my own.
  • No ability to send emails based on Time Zone. Even MailChimp has this feature, so it's pretty strange that Marketo doesn't.
  • Uniform user interface across the entire platform - for example, sometimes the export/refresh buttons are at the top of the window and sometimes it is at the bottom, and then in the Revenue Cycle Explorer, the interface is completely different. It's obvious which parts of the platform were developed by different teams.
  • Marketo Support is very slow, and sometimes completely unresponsive. I've had a ticket in there for almost 8 weeks now and every time I follow up to ask for progress, they say they are still working on it and never contact me again.
  • It's helpful in keeping customers informed throughout their loan process, which helps our objectives on the customer service and satisfaction side.
  • Engage and grow customers over time
Engaging customers through email has not been as successful as anticipated.
It was practically the only option for my company, since we needed a custom CRM integration. Marketo has a great platform but a LOT of improvements need to be made in order for it to be considered the best. For businesses with limited budget and that don't require any customization, I would say look elsewhere. For businesses that have a lot of customization involved with their marketing practices and operations, Marketo is a good choice.
