Overall Satisfaction with MasterControl Quality Excellence

We use MasterControl for document management, change control management, as well as for tracking Events, Deviations, and Investigations. We use MasterControl daily, and it helps immensely in maintaining compliance, and ensuring that all actions are auditable and attributable. MasterControl has made audits and reviews a much simpler process due to the intuitive infocard structure that the system is based on.

Cons

  • The Training module relies on infocards, but does not play well with the revision system
  • Basic reporting tools are inconvenient to use
  • Pricing is very high.
  • Licensing is certainly expensive at ~$1700/user
  • The VxT validation tool has saved us months in validation time
  • MasterControl has helped us streamline the audit process, which resulted in less time spent looking for documents and change controls.
MasterControl has an extremely intuitive interface. While certain aspects are lacking, such as basic reporting, the tabulated structure of the forms is very straightforward from an end-user perspective. From an administrator standpoint, the manner in which form templates and data structures are used makes it rather easy to build and customize MasterControl to exactly what you need.
MasterControl offered a significantly easier to use interface, and a much easier to customize backend than TrackWise. While both systems are targeted at the same tasks, TrackWise felt clumsy where MasterControl felt polished. Tracking documentation, especially the ability to link forms to existing documents in MasterControl gave it an edge over the version of TrackWise that I had used at the time.

MasterControl is excellent for handling documents and revisions, as well as for initiating and tracking change controls. It allows for multi-departmental impact assessments, and the action item module allows for project flexibility. The ability to create custom workflows, lifecycles, and eForms is a great boon to efficiency. The ability to implement custom forms and workflows opens a whole new world of options in terms of tracking anything from deviations, investigations, CAPA's, and more.
