Overall Satisfaction with Micro Focus Data Protector

We use Micro Focus Data Protector for all workloads, be it file system backup, SQL databases, Oracle, VMware, Hyper-V, SAP HANA, etc. In the future, we will add cloud workloads (e.g. MS365) and containers (OpeShift, Tanzu, ....), which we also want to back up with Micro Focus Data Protector. Micro Focus Data Protector is our main backup product which we use and sell in-house and to our customers.
  • works on nearly every platform
  • addresses nearly every workload (physical, virtual, databases, etc.)
  • easy to install, configure and handle
  • good documentation
  • combination for DP and DP4CW under one roof (GUI)
  • better reporting (f.e.: a report which client selections are within a backup spec, which spec uses which backup device,...)
  • SAP HANA Restore with DP GUI
  • Zero Downtime Backup with IBM Storewiz Storage Systems
Often support comes with standard questions, but here the customer environment should already be known, at least if the customer is a service provider.

Do you think OpenText Data Protector delivers good value for the price?

Yes

Are you happy with OpenText Data Protector's feature set?

Yes

Did OpenText Data Protector live up to sales and marketing promises?

Yes

Did implementation of OpenText Data Protector go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy OpenText Data Protector again?

Yes

Mostly reliable for years
Here the license model from the Micro Focus Data Protector and DP4CW should merge. It causes argumentation problems if you license two products here.
Micro Focus Data Protector can be used in pretty much any physical and virtual environment as it has a wide range of integrations, including SAP HANA, MaxDB, Oracle, etc. It is also supported on almost any operating system, whether Windows, Linus, or AIX.Also, a large number of storage arrays are supported which can be used as backup targets (on-premise and in the cloud). There is still room for improvement in the integration of cloud workloads into the DP GUI. Like the backup of Exchange Online, the other workloads should also move to the HTML5 GUI (complete MS365 suite, Proxmox, OpenShift, etc.).Likewise, the possibility of SAP HANA restores should migrate to the GUI, e.g. to ensure system copies.
