Overall Satisfaction with Microsoft Defender for Business

Microsoft Defender for Business is our main protection and vulnerability management for our corporate Windows systems since over 1,5 years by now. Apart from the obvious protection part that it covers it also offers us console where we can see all the potential vulnerabilities and thus helps us remediate them and as a result reduce our attack surface.

Pros

  • Very efficient in detecting all kinds of threats
  • Very helpful in identifying all existing vulnerabilities
  • Great in reducing the attack surface

Cons

  • Microsoft Defender for Business is not that effective when it is not connected to the internet. It relies to much on the internet connectivity.
  • The user interface is limited, thus giving the false impression that there is not much done by Defender!
  • Would be better to have Defender show in the running apps in the taskbar corner.
  • Microsoft Defender for Business has cut our costs compared to our previous solution.
  • Microsoft Defender for Business has really helped us reduce our attack surface, thus preventing possible future problems / incidents.
  • Since we have switched over to Microsoft Defender for Business, we have reduced the time needed to monitor our protection solution.
Concerning the admin side the usability is great. There is a lot of information and reports and the provided visibility is great. However, on the user side the provided GUI is minimal and this leads to the false impression that this is a poor solutions. It would be great if the user GUI could be enriched!
We used to have Trend Micro Worry Free Advanced Services Business suite as our main protection solution, however after trying out Microsoft Defender for Business there was no going back. We made the switch and never looked back! This also helped us save on the protection costs, which was also welcome!

The information Microsoft Defender for Business offers to the admins is of great help and makes it really easy to focus on potential problems and fid the best suited solutions to them!

Using Microsoft Defender for Business

63 - All users in our company use Defender for Business. From Accounting, Logistics, Human Resources, Quality Management, Maintenance to Production!
3 - This does not mean that all 3 users support the rest of our users all the time. Just than when needed any one of those 3 users may offer support! Which is not needed often...
  • The obvious, keeping us safe from all the threats out there
  • Help us minimize our attack surface
  • Help us monitor and resolve any misconfigurations in our settings
  • Help us monitor and detect any outdated software
So far we have found no alternative that would overall offer us more than we are getting from Microsoft Defender for Business!
