It is used company-wide for announcements and building smaller communities.

- Can be perceived as more for fun rather than corporate
- It helps to grow the social aspect of the organization, which, while not easily quantifiable, is important from an HR point of view.
Each app serves a different purpose even though there may be some overlap. Yammer is a little like Facebook and one can create, join, or find communities, and many people are familiar with Facebook. Slack works with channels and there are some people who are not as familiar with that. But as they are, Yammer can be perceived as for fun, while Slack appears to be better for collaborative conversations.
