Overall Satisfaction with Octopus Deploy

Before we used Octopus Deploy, we used to deploy our websites to our servers manually. This was a time consuming, error prone process. Many late evenings were spent in the office purely for website deployments.

We moved our deployment process into Octopus Deploy, automated and standardized every step, and have scaled the same process out to more websites as we've worked on more projects. We're even able to schedule the deployments so they can happen after hours without someone needing to work late.

  • Works with lots of technologies
  • Config as code is still new, some missing features
  • Mobile view of the dashboard isn't great in places
  • A way to bulk clean up old package versions would be nice
  • It has made our deployment processes much faster and easier, no late evenings
  • Our deployments are much more reliable, no time wasted on troubleshooting
  • Anyone in the team is now able to deploy fixes, safely and securely
I have only had to contact Octopus Deploy's support twice, but my experience was fantastic.

The first time I contacted support, I had a call and screen share to go through how we might tackle a complicated deployment pattern we were looking to do for one of our more complex internal projects. After the call concluded I was also emailed with further suggestions on what we could try.

The second time, we had an issue with a live deployment due to a (rare) service outage. I was contacted very quickly and kept informed as to the progress on resolution of the outage.

The Octopus Deploy dashboard is so intuitive to use, we haven't needed any formal training or prior experience in order to get up and running. In particular, I have found it to be much easier than Azure DevOps Releases.

It's really nice to be able to use a GUI for piecing together a deployment process, but also make use of Config As Code to replicate it across projects.
Octopus Deploy has been able to do everything we've set out to make it do. Most of the time there are either built-in or community made step templates, but we've also authored a handful of our own. I have used it for deploying to Windows servers, Linux servers, and Docker containers in Azure. We've predominantly deployed applications written in dotnet and JavaScript.
