Overall Satisfaction with Onshape

We are providers of automation solutions to the auto industry in Aguascalientes, Mexico. Onshape has been a great resource to help with the design of fixtures, jigs, and machines for our customers, which is our main business. We previously used other design platforms like Solid Works and Inventor, but after using Onshape, there was no looking back. Those other platforms make a mess when managing versions of a design and depend on files for sharing, which creates another set of problems. Sharing a view-only design with a customer is a breeze with OS, and since no software installation is required, all of our customers are able to access the system and review the design.
  • Not needing to save a file.
  • Working in the clod.
  • Super easy to share.
  • Real time team collaboration.
  • Excellent management of versions.
  • You absolutely need an internet connection (not really a con).
  • It lags behind in some areas regarding specialty functions like electric or mold design.
  • It reduced our design time to half compared to machine software, mainly due to sudden computer crashes and blackouts, but mainly to the ability to have two or more engineers working on the same design at the same time.
  • It increases our liquidity due to less investment up front, which is easily returned in the first month.
  • Reduced the time for design review with our customers to less than half due to them not needing to install software or purchase for view only.
They have been helpful with an issue I had. I simply asked for help in the browser window, and they reached out. I had to share the project so they could see it, and it was super easy.
We are a micro company, so these decisions are easily made, but that doesn't mean there are no other options. One day I asked for a Solid Works quotation, and they freaked me out, saying that they had to send technicians for the software installation. Apart from that, we would have to have to expend three times the amount, which for a company our size is something that has to be considered really well. Onshape doesn't have those issues.

Do you think Onshape delivers good value for the price?

Yes

Are you happy with Onshape's feature set?

Yes

Did Onshape live up to sales and marketing promises?

Yes

Did implementation of Onshape go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy Onshape again?

Yes

Onshape is well suited to replace any other design suite as long as you have a dependable internet connection and don't need special design modules like electric design. It shines when working in a collaborative way with other persons, when the computer has reliability problems, when it's needed to explore several design ideas, and when it's needed to share a design and retain control of the IP, among many others. I definitely wouldn't use any traditional design software again, even when those other companies are in fact, offering some incomplete on-the-cloud "solutions".

Onshape Training

I might be biased by coming from using three different CAD softwares in the past, so I already understood many modeling concepts, but the training OS offers is really good. Videos are clear, they explain operations in good detail and besides that OS has a really good help system that explains even more how every tool works.
