Overall Satisfaction with Oracle Warehouse Builder

It's used only within one department.
  • OWB has a very nice performance of ETL processing, as it uses Oracle database as a transformation engine. It's very intuitive and easy to use tool.
  • What I noticed is that sometimes OWB doesn't generate the best SQL in the package especially when there are a high number of source tables in the ETL. It would be nice if ETL developers were allowed to update the generated packages in the database directly.
  • Another thing - moving OWB ETLs from one database to another one could be easier - for example it would be nice to just copy the generated packages from one database to the other one without doing the deployment of these ETLs through OWB.
  • OWB allows you to quickly develop even complex ETLs thus saving lots of time for the developers to work on other things. I would say OWB is a very convenient and easy to use tool.
Currently we work with Informatica and compared to OWB Informatica is a little bit more difficult to use, however Informatica has more features and is a more powerful BI tool.
Oracle Warehouse Builder (OWB) is best used for small to middle warehousing projects. In the past, it had a disadvantage compared to other ETL tools (like Informatica) working with non-Oracle sources or targets, but this was improved during the latest releases.
