Overall Satisfaction with Portainer

Easily contextualizes the command line and helps for quicker adoption of containerization technologies. Very helpful for saving yaml files. Better than Podman in my opinion. The edge agent is also very nice for editing files within the volumes of containers. Have not yet used for k8s. The scope of the use case is deploying software and back up software easily for on-premise and cloud providers.
  • Visualize the command line
  • UI is intuitive
  • Ease of use of community to learn
  • A way to dynamically edit yaml files within volumes at runtime
  • The .env files in many projects require special docker-compose files - counter intuitive
  • Using github/git to deploy projects a bit challenging
  • User Interface is for the most part intuitive
  • Focus on outcomes (deploying software consistently)
  • Ability to deploy and maintain 30+ pieces of software on our server with relative ease.

Portainer is well suite for stand alone docker environments as well as docker swarm. I have not yet used for k8s. While K8S seems to be "standard" within tech orgs, many non-tech orgs do not need the complication/features of that product. Stand alone docker on 1-5 servers can be extremely effective for companies <50 people.
