Overall Satisfaction with Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL)

Almost every single VM that we deploy in every environment is a Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) server. We have thousands of nodes serving all kinds of functions ranging from financial to infrastructure. All of the Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) servers we deploy at this point are Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 8 or newer and it allows us to ensure that the servers that are deployed in our environments are all enterprise supported in the event that our internal teams are not able to resolve any issues that come up.

Pros

  • Ensures enterprise support for each server
  • Ensures consistency across all of our servers
  • It has enabled my team specifically to reduce the spread of knowledge required for Linux and allow us to focus on one Linux distribution
The Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) distro is the simplest enterprise version of Red Hat that is enterprise supported and when you deploy as many VMs as we do, it is vital to have that enterprise support. On top of the enterprise support, having access to a commercially supported backbone for updates and upgrades is a huge plus.

Do you think Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) delivers good value for the price?

Not sure

Are you happy with Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL)'s feature set?

Yes

Did Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) live up to sales and marketing promises?

I wasn't involved with the selection/purchase process

Did implementation of Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) go as expected?

I wasn't involved with the implementation phase

Would you buy Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) again?

Yes

In enterprise environments, I've found that Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) is the de facto option for most situations where a Linux machine is needed. The depth of support that Red Hat offers customers for Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) is unprecedented and is a highly sought after resource that is readily available. Just about the only instance where I've noticed that Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) might not be the answer is for servers that are oracle related or that require AD services.
