Overall Satisfaction with Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL)

We currently use Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) for a quarter of our environment. We use it to put our Oracle databases as well as some crucial applications. Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) makes it easier to scale out our environment. Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) also is easy to deploy and maintain in our environment as a set it and forget it type of OS.

Cons

  • Single Pane of glass for all of our servers
  • Better way to gauge our performance other than TOP
  • Easier way to add storage
  • Price has been pretty constistent
  • It has been easy to train new employees on
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) Support has helped train our people to be better sysadmins
I gave this rating an 8 because if you come from a windows background it takes some time to get used to the CMD line interface. Good thing Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) has good documentation to help users
We haven't used anything comparable to Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL). We are a WIndows and Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL )shop. We only support those two

Based on my experience Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) is well suited in our environment where we need to quickly scale out our workloads. I really don't see a scenario where Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) would be less appropriate. Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) is pretty good where it is and we will continue to watch for the upgrades and improvements.
