Overall Satisfaction with SAP Business Technology Platform

Product Development with SAP EPD
UI Mock Ups with SAP Build Apps
Central Launchpad with Build WZ
Integration to SAP and non SAP with integration suite
App development POC with Build Code
Automation (invoice) with SAP process Automation

Pros

  • Integration
  • Availability

Cons

  • Ease of use
  • User administration, both on SAP Business Technology Platform (e.g. not possible to assign multiple RCs to multiple users at once n the UI)
  • IAS has big issues handling cached information and that impacts a lot the administration of users and groups
  • Fast time to prototype
  • Quick integrations
Integration suite again. It is flexible if you code, but only with the standard tools it's not possible of doing much
I have not seen or used any of the use cases

Yes

Yes

Did SAP Business Technology Platform live up to sales and marketing promises?

Yes

Did implementation of SAP Business Technology Platform go as expected?

No

Would you buy SAP Business Technology Platform again?

For integration (Suite) it can do anything at all. Positive: it's extremely flexible. NEgative: it takes a real integration black belt to develop some of the things. Not very business user intended.

Using SAP Business Technology Platform

500 - This number represents a base BTP power users (around 10 people), and different power users from other areas (e.g. EPD 60 users), however, because or services like API Management and Workzone, there are functionalities available for all administrative users within the company, approx 500 users. In the near future, we want to provide mobile alternatives also to the production employees, and making that a total of 2000+ users using BTP as their main central system to at least find resources.
1 - Unfortunately we only have 1 person able to work on BTP administration. We have a couple people from IT that end up doing one task on another, but very specific to their own needs, and also some students trying out some functionalities, but nothing productive.

My dream would be to have at least 4 more people (best would be 4 more teams) with experts for:
Application development and operations
Integration expert (CPI/API Management)
Data and analytics (SAC/Datasphere)
Administrative Services (ctms, AI, Cloud identity Services, etc)
  • Integration - SF to HCM via CPI
  • Integration - S/4 to other systems via APIM
  • Workzone providing central access to resources
  • Build to OCR invoices and create them in S/4
  • Signing up as early adopter of solutions like Mobile Start and Task Center allowed us to work with SAP and get questions answered during execution, which makes a lot less time spent to deploy them
  • Not sure if innovative ways, but being invited to SAP Events where new products are announced allow me to understand the roadmap and make plans of what comes next to FRoSTA easier
  • Building apps and migrating Z code from S/4
  • Introducing AI services and especially integrating Joule to our Co Pilot
  • Creating a data foudation to begin with Datasphere
I won't really be the decision factor here, but we already have at least a pair of productive stuff on BTP. Can it be deployed to another tool in case we don't have BTP? Yes, but it takes some time and effort and personally if it was up to me, I would say makes no sense.
