Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use the SAP Business Technology Platform to test and develop new integrations, applications, and novel ways of monitoring end-to-end supply chains as a systems integrator. Building on the SAP Business Technology Platform is the faster and most effective way to both learn and appreciate what our customer are doing, how they are feeling, and how we can help with either professional services or software add-ons.

Pros and Cons

Pros

The business technology platform does custom integrations via integration suite exceptionally well.
The consumption based billing and managing is effective and fair.
Support for building new and custom applications through low-no-code options is among the better ways.

Cons

Comprehensive monitoring of iflows and integrations, their availability, latency, and success rate could be improved.
Monitoring the payloads with a searchable method would accelerate RCA in many cases.
Additional out-of-the-box alert integrations would be great.

Return on Investment

Ours is a little different than a typical customer because we use the platform to develop new integrations for our mutual customers.
Some of the requirements for integrations can be limiting compared to other platforms on the market.
The integration support for SAP specific applications and especially those in cloud-centric uses is best in class.

Usability

Okay, so the content that we have built on the platform is limited to specific testing on the iFlows within integration suite. The visualization layer is nice to use and helps with the design elements, however with developers that are more used to markup languages, it doesn't have the same CLI type feel when you want it. Perhaps the majority of users are that deep, but other platforms have a better CLI type developer experience.

We find SAP Business Technology Platform well suite for applications in enterprises that are moving toward more of a composable architecture. The speed at which you can develop, change, and modify (and then grow the footprint) is solid capability. However, in some cases where an integration does not need the flexibility of composability, a more simple, basic, and less frequently changed experience can benefit hybrid or on-prem-first customers.
