Overall Satisfaction with SAP S/4HANA Cloud

We are migrating to SAP S/4HANA Cloud as our ERP system including our central finance department.

Pros

  • Much faster than ECC. In-memory processing definitely speeds up transaction processing.
  • Embedded BW & analytics capabilities easily enable a lot of functionality that in the R3 version would have taken massive development time and resources.
  • Fiori has a lot of potential to revolutionize the user experience (UX).

Cons

  • SAP S/4HANA Cloud is relatively new and it seems that the body of knowledge to effectively deploy with all of the new features is somewhat limited. SAP S/4HANA Cloud does seem very dedicated to rapidly grow the skills and body of knowledge with training and support.
  • Early versions of Fiori are somewhat limited.
  • Upgrading from version to version (on-prem versions) can be challenging Upgrading to the newest version 1909 takes a lot of time, planning, and resources to execute for us.
  • Overall the move will greatly improve our capabilities in integration, digitization, and analytics. We are mid-way on our journey so we are seeing some benefits so far and expect them to increase as we move towards the end of the project.
  • Operational and financial reporting should improve dramatically.
  • Simplification through consolidation of multiple ERP's, data models, and data warehouses will be a big plus.
It is a huge improvement over ECC, and SAP is working to upgrade and improve user experience. Expense is a drawback.
  • Scalability
  • Integration with Other Systems
Works well for order to cash and procure to pay if integrated with other SAP products. Universal journal in finance is a very welcome addition and Central Finance offers a host of options for upgrading to SAP S/4HANA Cloud without having to wait until the entire enterprise can move. Companies should consider greenfield strategies to implement SAP S/4HANA Cloud due to all of the great new capabilities, however, this type of implementation can be expensive, so each company should carefully plan its implementation strategy.
