Overall Satisfaction with SolarWinds Network Configuration Manager

We use it to standardize and preserve the configurations for all of our network devices. We use the reporting to ensure the configuration of those devices meet policy. The use is limited to those that manage the network having access to edit. For all of IT, we have view capabilities. I, myself, have full access so I can perform the audit procedures necessary.
  • Provides a quick and easy compliance check, listing devices that are configured against policy.
  • I would suggest more canned reports. We have developed some ourselves to meet our needs, but it would have been nice to have had them ready when we implemented.
  • We moved from a managed service to insourcing the SolarWinds product, the ROI was quickly met compared to the managed services side.
As our managed service provider used SolarWinds, we were accustomed to it and did not evaluate other products at the time.
We are a dispersed, global company, with network devices in several locations across multiple continents. SolarWinds Network Configuration Manager allows us to manage and audit against all of these devices from any location, office, home, traveling. We do, however, feel the need to keep it locked down and access not granted to all as it is possible for those with less experience/knowledge to make changes without realizing it. A more granular access level would be beneficial in protecting the configurations while allowing more technicians to experience it.
