Overall Satisfaction with SolarWinds Network Configuration Manager
We use it in the IT department to backup configuration files of all our switches in the company. It is very critical to have backups of all the networking equipment, because if one of the switches crashes we will have a backup to bring a new switch back online without issues. Since it takes a backup of the configs every day, I know that any changes that are being made of time are being captured and I don't have to worry. It has saved us in the past in a very major way when our core switch failed in our datacenter. It has a very complex configuration and if it would have needed to be built up from scratch it would have been a disaster. With NCM we were able to bring the replacement switch back online relatively easy.
- Making backups of our networking equipment.
- Takes backups on a daily basis and retains those backups. Both the frequency and retention can be customized to our needs.
- It automated backups on a daily basis, I don't need to worry when I make changes to my equipment as I know all my changes are being backed up.
- If it would notify be when backups stop working on a node. I have encountered looking at NCM and discovered that backups were not being taken for weeks or months on a switch and I had no notification that this was the case.
- When our core switch at the datacenter failed we were able to bring it back online no problem. Being that this is the core switch that handles all the traffic for all our locations, this was a major recovery for the company.
