Overall Satisfaction with Oracle SQL Developer

SQL Developer is being used within IT to control our databases. It's used to run queries, create reports, database administration, and for data modeling. Oracle is our ERP and SQL Developer is pretty much the easiest way to make changes to and get information out of our databases.
  • Run SQL statements and SQL scripts.
  • Create and save custom reports.
  • Cant really terminate an executing PL/SQL procedure once it has been started.
  • Export function can be buggy at times.
  • Its free, so that's a plus. No negatives to that.
The products are pretty comparable as far as functionality goes. We preferred the user interface of SQL Developer over competing products. They are all free so price was not a consideration. We did try Toad but decided SQL Developer suited us better.
SQL Developer is well suited to create reports that are not readily available as a seeded report. It also makes it easy to make changes to seeded reports (adding/removing columns, calculated columns). Database monitoring as well as connecting to third party databases for monitoring is also simple. The tree based object browser makes it easy to navigate where you want to go.
