Overall Satisfaction with StarWind Virtual SAN

We use StarWind Virtual SAN to provide high availability for our 2-node Hyper-V hyper-converged cluster. It provides high availability and zero downtime for our entire company. We initially looked at S2D but found it isn't really designed for 2-node hyper-converged clusters. We demoed StarWind VSAN because of all the great reviews and mentions from the community, but what sold me was an amazing support. During the demo, I was able to work with a very knowledgeable engineer and after our purchase, an engineer validated EVERY aspect of the configuration. Not only did they validate everything and correct problems, but they also explained everything and really increased my knowledge. Support even checked back several times to see if I needed anything.

Pros

  • Rock solid performance.

Cons

  • None that I've experienced.
  • Downtime has dropped to zero.
  • Ability to schedule maintenance on a host anytime (no more weekend maintenance).

We initially looked at Microsoft's S2D but found it isn't really designed for a 2-node hyper-converged cluster scenario that we were looking for. The service during our demo of Virtual SAN as well as the performance we experienced was what really sold us. Access to knowledgeable engineers during a demo was great.
I can't say enough about the very knowledgeable engineers that checked EVERY configuration setting of our implementation. They not only corrected settings that might cause problems for us in the future but the also explained everything. I came away from the experience with a great deal more knowledge than I started with. They also followed up several times to ensure that everything was running smoothly and that I didn't have any concerns.

StarWind Virtual SAN worked extremely well for our 2-node hyper-converged cluster. The performance has been great and looks like it will scale with our future growth. It really works well for our smaller deployment, but I feel that with its scale-out capability it will be a valuable product for the foreseeable future.
