Use Cases and Deployment Scope

StarWind is used as our primary storage system in our VMware environment. We wanted a HA storage system. We were using another system that was Active-Passive when the HA failed and it had to be rebuilt. We then researched and moved to StarWind and it has been working great for us!

Pros and Cons

Pros

Active-Active HA is rock solid.
It is relatively simple to set up and support will guide you through the process if needed.
Support responds fairly quickly.

Cons

If a disaster happens (power lost to both nodes due to battery backup failure) determining the most up-to-date storage is a bit tricky. It would be nice if there were clearer indicators.

Return on Investment

Considering the features it is relatively inexpensive.
It is not priced by storage quantity.

Support Rating

In general support has been excellent and willing to go the extra mile to make sure the product is set up correctly and working. Support is generally very quick to respond and is knowledgeable about the product. They always take time to review the setup and make sure it is configured using best practices.

Likelihood to Recommend

StarWind works very well as the underlying storage for a virtualized environment. It has multiple configuration options that will fit your needs from Hyper-converged to multi-node cluster. During the update process I don't have to take VM's offline. I simply update one node and when all is synced I update the other node. In general the product just works. I rarely have to do anything but install updates.
