Overall Satisfaction with TIBCO Spotfire
Used widely across different groups, but more among the engineering side of the house. The ad-hoc capabilities are very useful to dig into data, something that standard reports can provide only with long development cycles. Its in-memory capabilities lend to high performance. The various visualization features provide insight that is usually not seen with tabular/standard reports.

- Impressive performance: hardly any latency
- Multiple visualization options
- Impossible to edit data sources of reports built from information links. I understand that is being resolved in higher versions
- Information link designer's GUI is archaic/clunky.
- Issues when using ODBC connections, we have had to completely recreate reports for ODBC changes.
We use both Spotfire and Power BI. Spotfire is more used by technical and engineering folks. Power BI has won a nice following with people in finance/marketing/accounting. I think it speaks to the difference in data between these groups. Spotfire is better for discovery and Power BI for canned and formatted outputs.
- Saved a lot of time analyzing problems
- Saved development time by not having to build complex reports in other technologies to match the same functionality.
- Negative. Not really a Spotfire issue: it became so popular that IT could not keep up with a change process around it.
