Overall Satisfaction with Unique Learning System

I am an Intervention Specialist at a school for students with Autism. We use Unique Learning System as part of our curriculum. Standard curriculums do not meet the unique needs of students with disabilities. Unique Learning System created a curriculum that is tailored to meet the varying needs of students with disabilities. ULS provides articles and storys that are symbol supported to aide students with reading comprehension. Students are able to show their knowledge through the use of visuals. Multiple choice questions are provided to students with symbols and words. This adaptation allows students at multiple levels to aquire new skills and show their knowledge.

Pros

  • Create adapted activities using symbols
  • Provide reading, science, math, and social studies activities at an appropriate level for students with disabilities
  • Provide educators with standards, guides, and support on how to implement the curriculum

Cons

  • New themes and units would be great! We have cycled through the same ones for a few years.
  • We would love to be able to access ULS activities on the ipads. An app would be amazing.
  • Easier navigation between pages and activities
  • Decreased planning time because everything is done for you. All you have to do is download and print!
  • Less time spent adapting materials to add visuals because ULS already is adapted!
  • Easy way to track student progress.
The ULS all-in-one system has transformed my approach to teaching. The curriculum makes planning easier and less time consuming. Each lesson is organized and easy to plan out for weeks at a time. I don't have to spend time worrying about what I am teaching the next day, everything is planned and ready for instruction.
Unique Learning System has made a significant impact on my students. Last year, I had a mom who was so upset her child would never read in the traditional way. While her daughter is not able to read words she can read symbols! Once her mom realized that her daughter could read symbol supported articles and books she was so excited. This student began to show interest in reading and her progress was amazing to see!
Unique Learning system is pretty easy to use. The only negative is that there are lots of pages you have to navigate between when looking through the activities. You have to click on the grade band, unit, and then subject. While you can download a PDF with every activity, those are over 1,000 pages long. It takes a long time to scroll through and find what you want.
