Overall Satisfaction with Unique Learning System

I use ULS as a SpEd teacher for secondary students within a behavioral health facility classroom. Problems addressed include differentiating for students across a variety of grade levels and skill levels as I have students in grades six through twelve. Currently, I use ULS with one student and it is the primary curriculum for this student.

Pros

  • differentiation
  • ease of use
  • student reporting criteria
  • sharing students with other staff in ULS

Cons

  • easier to see what students have and have not been assigned
  • ease of sharing a student across staff members within the ULS system; student is shared with one other staff member for four subjects total
  • 1 hour less daily attempting to differentiate gen ed curriculum for a student with a much lower level of functioning than peers
I do not have to spend near as much time planning for a single student in differentiating their instruction when I have 19 other students to plan instruction for. Student is able to begin working independently and request help as needed. Additionally, I am able to easily assign the student work that is of interest to them by working with them to decide upon assignments.
Student was very excited to start working in ULS as she is now working on the computer like her peers. She was happy that she was able to work within her independency level instead of working with a teacher for almost the entire class period. It instills confidence in her. It works well with our computer monitoring and messaging system.
It is overall user-friendly, but could be easier to use if it was easier to determine at a glance which assignments have already been assigned and completed by students.

Do you think Unique Learning System delivers good value for the price?

Yes

Are you happy with Unique Learning System's feature set?

Yes

Did Unique Learning System live up to sales and marketing promises?

I wasn't involved with the selection/purchase process

Did implementation of Unique Learning System go as expected?

I wasn't involved with the implementation phase

Would you buy Unique Learning System again?

Yes

ULS is well suited for scenarios requiring a high level of differentiation across skill and grade levels. It is less appropriate when teaching same skill and grade level students in a small group setting, but it would still be useful in this scenario. It would not be appropriate for students who have a high reading level but still need the instruction ULS provides.
