Overall Satisfaction with Unique Learning System

There is no other product out there that aligns what students with significant cognitive needs are with the state standards in each state in a manner you can assign to students. Students are able to work at skills on their level individually. Instructions for each lesson are lacking for students so guidance is needed to support students knowing what to do, but the content is spot on with my most significant cognitive needing students.

Pros

  • Provides aligned content to grade level standards for students with significant cognitive needs
  • Provides a platform for students to engage with that is age appropriate
  • Benchmarks are easy to complete with students and provide solid data for progress reports

Cons

  • Reports, reports, reports. Data is lacking for collecting grades, particularly if using Learning Pathways.
  • Checkpoint options for Learning Pathways outside of Language Arts
  • Customer Service used to be amazing, but the last year it is very difficult to get support because the Live Chat with a real person went away.
  • Ease of meeting IEP requirements
  • Time saved on independent work for these students
  • Providing a curriculum for these students that is appropriate.
While it has some wonderful lessons, planning resources in the lesson plans and ability to progress monitor using the benchmarks, it is truly lacking in support for daily instruction in our virtual environment. It is a great deal of planning and effort on teacher to plan for each individual student outside of their independent content. This needs better packaged. More reports and data is needed on the student daily work where you can easily capture for grades or progress tracking outside of benchmarks just in their regular work.
I needed data to provide baselines for IEP and then progress monitoring tool to assess growth. I can do this through the benchmarks and it even gives the language that is easy to copy and paste and use in an IEP for documentation. This gives a clear picture for each goal and its progress.
It is not very intuitive. There are a million different ways/paths to get to what you need. You have to go into the 'snowflake for certain things and in to the globe for other things. You can't just choose to use Learning Pathways without also assigning work outside of learning pathways because the content in there is so weak for other subjects outside of Language Arts. It takes a long time to learn the program. There are no links from the teacher resources directly to the items to assign if want to assign from there, you have to go find it. In addition, to get the resources for units, you can't get these from the Learning Pathway for live instruction, you have to go somewhere else like the Unit Lessons area to go locate the slide decks, video resources, etc.

No

Did Unique Learning System live up to sales and marketing promises?

No

Did implementation of Unique Learning System go as expected?

I wasn't involved with the implementation phase

Would you buy Unique Learning System again?

Yes

Students working significantly below grade level need content aligned to their grade level standards but is also age appropriately presented. This is where Unique Learning System shines. Not appropriate for students a little below grade level. This is for what I refer to as 'Life Skills' students. It is well suited for collecting benchmark data for IEP goals as well for these students.
