Veeam Backup & Replication

Overall Satisfaction with Veeam Backup & Replication

Veeam Backup & Replication is being used company-wide. Meaning all our servers pretty much get backed up with this tool. The business problem is solves is slow or failed backups whether on disk, tape, or cloud. Veeam seems to handle the large backups better than anything else we've tried.
  • Virtualized workloads
  • Endpoints and physical servers running Windows & Linux
  • Enterprise UNIX servers running Solaris & IBM AIX
  • Cloud-hosted VMs within AWS or Azure
  • NAS filers
  • Utilizing backup copies for secondary purposes via DataLabs
  • Automating test restores to validate recoverability
  • Integration with cyber-security tools for SecureRestore
  • “Instant” recovery or portability between platforms (physical > virtual > cloud-hosted)
  • Integration with cyber-security tools for SecureRestore
  • Everything is straightforward and easy to use.
  • Backups are done in less time than before.
  • Testing restores is quick and easy.
  • Better integration with select cloud services
  • Easier to find admin/advanced tools
  • More granular file inspection inside VM backups
All systems in the virtual workload are backed up locally and remotely. Cloud systems are as well but just selectively to reduce cloud bandwidth costs. A private cloud option is a big winner as well if you decide to do a co-location site. Not many things we don't put on Veeam.
  • All kinds of time and aggravation saved
  • Cost in the long run is lowered.
  • Support tickets for difficult issues have saved us time.
Issues with old backups or stale backups caused us to search for a better backup option. In our case, we had a few instances where our recovered servers were nonfunctional or something similar. Since moving to Veeam we've not had similar issues like that.
Leveraging the cloud is very important these days. The Veeam suite has a long list of cloud features some of which we've utilized and some not. I would say in the future everyone will be doing cloud backups, at least when it's a bit more affordable, but that's not something Veeam can control.
In the trials we've run, putting some file share data on Veeam, it has been easy and quick just like everything else we do in Veeam. We have a large amount of data company-wide that has not been moved over, but once the migration is complete we imagine it would work as well.
I'm highly likely to recommend Veeam Backup & Replication and its fully-featured suite to colleagues. There is not much to it. If you do VM backups (or even physical now) then this is one of the best. Maybe not one of the cheapest but it is not always a great idea to skimp on backup systems.
