Overall Satisfaction with Veeam Backup & Replication
Veeam Backup & Replication is being used by the IT department as our primary backup and disaster recovery product. We use it for disk backups, tape backups, and management of both file and system recovery. We have a mix of VMware virtual machines, bare metal servers, and client workstations that are currently being protected by this suite.
- Virtualized workloads
- Endpoints and physical servers running Windows & Linux
- Enterprise applications such as Oracle or SAP HANA
- In addition to back up, we also replicate some of these workloads
- Enterprise UNIX servers running Solaris & IBM AIX
- NAS filers
- Application-centric recovery using Veeam Explorers (for Exchange, SQL, Sharepoint, etc)
- License portability as your environment needs change
- Automating test restores to validate recoverability
- Immutable storage to protect against ransomware
- “Instant” recovery or portability between platforms (physical > virtual > cloud-hosted)

- Easy-to-use recovery of guest files
- Quick point-in-time recovery of SQL objects
- Instant restore of VM from backup repository--this allows you to bring a failed system online in a degraded state and then inflate to full storage
- Tape management is still a bit of a pain; I'm happy they have it, but it's not a strength
- Multiple tasks happening at once sometimes cause conflicts; we manually set schedules for our backups so they don't interfere with each other
- Retrying jobs is sometimes a problem; sometimes the only solution is running a full backup, as it won't continue from where it failed
We have over 40 virtual machines and 20 client workstations being backed up by this product. We did not anticipate backing up our client workstations but added on the license after the fact. It's worked flawlessly.
- Being able to manage backups on site has allowed us to have quick recovery when needed and reduced our storage costs--cloud wasn't an option for our organization.
- Due to Veeam Backup & Replication, we have experienced zero downtime that would impact business systems.
Veeam Backup & Replication was our first choice at this organization. We reviewed multiple products but landed on Veeam Backup & Replication due to its reputation and the experience our technicians had with the product. We have not reviewed any alternatives since purchasing.
