Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Our company uses Vertex for sales transactions in the US and Canada. We do not use Vertex for any purchase transactions. Vertex calculates all sales/use and VAT (Canada) for our company. Our company also uses Vertex Returns for filing sales tax returns. We utilize Vertex's RateLocator tool for tax rate lookups. Our company does not currently utilize the Vertex Exemption Certificate Manager, but we plan on doing so in the future.

Vertex is a well known company in the tax software business and it is very reliable in calculating taxes. It's easy to teach new members of the company how to use its functionality. The monthly process of importing data from the tax calculation tools into the Returns package is very simple and a quick process. This allows members of our team more time in working on reconciling the data. Vertex is very reliable in having the most up-to-date tax rates, which minimizes the amount of billing issues with customers.

Vertex has been a very reliable and accurate tax calculation engine in the 9 years I have used it. It is relatively easy to learn and to teach others how to use its functionalities. Vertex does a really good job in ensuring that the tax rates are updated and they release an update once a month prior to month end. Customer service responds quickly to issues. The Vertex Returns package is very use to use and it is quite easy to transfer the data from Vertex L/O into Vertex Returns. Vertex's RateLocator tool is very simple but effective in looking up tax rates, either by jurisdiction or by zip code.
