Overall Satisfaction with Visual Studio IDE

Mostly the whole group of students uses Visual Studio as their IDE for creating games. It can be used either as a standalone suite or as an IDE for other game engines.
  • Debugger is superb
  • Multiple plugins to address different needs
  • Integration with many languages
  • Ease to learn. hard to master
  • The whole suite is heavy and could use some cleanup
  • Setup takes a long time and dozens of dependencies are necessary
Visual is a well-rounded solution for all kinds of software development, be it Windows-native or other architectures. Its build steps are fully customizable and can fit different needs - from tiny embedded system to video game consoles. It facilitates development, especially due to its debugging tools, which helps tracking down problems much faster and reliably.
I can't think of a scenario Visual Studio wouldn't be well suited, other than development for platforms which have exclusive development tools (such as iOS [Xcode] or Android [Android Studio]).
