Great tool for translators!
- User-friendliness.
- Cloud based.
- Translation Memories.
- Free version discontinued.
I've personally been using Memsource for almost 3 years now. The learning curve was rather smooth and it has been a pleasant product to use. I'm finding myself constantly learning about various features it offers as i've gotten more and more familiar with it.
- Capacity to seamlessly store and build translation memories and term bases.
- Capacity to easily assign projects to various providers.
- Ease of use and friendly user interface.
- I'd love to see better filter options in the projects tab. When having 50-100 active projects it can be hard to find specifics.
Fastest and Easiest to use
- Easy to learn.
- Suggest partially translations for the TM.
- Term Base.
- Does not handle well tags in the translations.
Very user friendly and safe
- user friendly UI
- very used among most of the companies
- enhances productivity
- difficult to understand the several options for different files extensions
- real time file update when working with more people in the same project

Great project management and translation platform with some improvements in project database insertion to make
- Project Management
- Document Preview
- Translation Memory
- Term Base
- Project Progress
- Project Information
- Memsource Integration with other tools.
- Inserting information for the project, since you have to save beforehand to the creation of the project, since the information like the subject, name of the client, and subject area will not appear if you haven't inserted them earlier.
- Memsource layout and loading speed of its system.
- Nice interface
- Easy to use
- Complete functionalities
- Cloud-based accesibility
- Zero down-time
- When editing a translation and performing the search for a word or phrase, you need to use the browser F3 function, and if the item to be found is beyond the text currently displayed on the screen, you need to scroll down to load more text. This is the usual disadvantage of cloud-based CAT tools.
Translation Accurate and Easy
- Direct translations usually accurate to a rate of over 70%.
- Spelling checking.
- Quality control.
- Speed of response via cloud even when multiple users are online.
- Choice of dictionaries - ie from USA English to UK English- removing the "Z"s and inserting the "U"s (i.e. realize to realise and honor to honour, etc.
- Auto removal of duplications whilst translating by highlighting any that appear.
- Providing a bulk correct function - similar to the Find and Replace function in Excel!
Memsource is your a great source!
- Suggestions of other segments where a certain term already appears are very helpful.
- Ability to use with various document/file formats
- Automatic saving of work progress
- Sometimes when I completed my work, the access to my Memsource account is blocked.
- The machine translation should be available when needed without any restrictions
- Online version can be slow
- The synching of the desktop app with the online app is great and very helpful.
- It is easy to look for all segments containing a specific term and correct them in a batch.
- Suggestions of other segments where a certain term already appears are very helpful.
- The online version can be very slow when working on large documents, or maybe during heavy internet use globally. But the desktop app basically solved this problem for me.
- I think more than anything, working with tags is the most challenging for me because I don't fully understand how they work and sometimes, getting them right seems impossible. I would appreciate a comprehensive tutorial on the subject.
One general issue for CAT tools is that when working with unformatted segments, one tends to lose sight of the overall picture. This sometimes results in certain translations ending up inconsistent or inaccurate simply because the context is not as immediately apparent as when translating directly from the source document. This just means more teamwork is needed to finish off the document, and this is a great feature of Memsource - reassembling the segments into a coherent document that looks like the original!
Translator experience
- very good machine translation
- possibility to work both online and offline
- easy to work with, easy editing
- British English!!! Memsource knows what British spelling should be but MT offers US English and underlines the US spelling as wrong for British English.
- MT does not use termbase. MT yellows the expression that is in the TB but does not offer it in the translation, instead makes up its own translation (typically abbreviation) instead of inserting the TB word
- Localisation of numbers. On the continent we write the decimal coma but in English it is the decimal point. Can there be a button to convert such numbers easily?
- Fast and accurate target text substitution from translation memory
- Visualization of the original file at the bottom of the page
- Combination of several documents into one when translating
- Automatic saving of work progress
- Automatic text formatting
- Sometimes when I completed my work, the access to my Memsource account is blocked. It will be better to unblock it in this kind of situation
- Maybe add a progress line in percentage in Memsource editor. Сurrently I have to reload the main page in order to check my progress
- The machine translation should be available when needed without any restrictions
Memsource is a MacBook's best friend
- Translation memory in multiple dialects for localization
- Efficient organization of projects for each client
- Ability to use with various document/file formats
- Ability to divide term bases by client
- Ability to upload terms from a file into term base to use or update
- More user-friendly tag instructions for insertion or deletion
Pleasant and easy to use even for a new CAT user
- Translation memories allow to use wording from past documents very easily.
- Term bases are convenient.
- Quality assurance helps identify areas to have an additional look at.
- Spell check in the document allows to correct typos as you go.
- Comments allow to share doubts with the team.
- Downloading the bilingual version, uploading the bilingual version are very helpful when you want to see the file in the form of a table.
- ALL CAPS - still not sure if you have this
Tried many source, stayed with Memsource!
- Processing files with Memsource is quite easy and it can understand the correct type and rules most of the time successfully.
- Setting up a project and assigning it, briefly getting something started and going ahead is simple which is great as we need speed and ease during the day when dealing with many simultaneous jobs.
- TM management is easier than some other CAT tools I tried, collecting all languages into a TM is creating less clutter.
- Definitely, it would be great to somehow improve the QA function, maybe by AI etc - but this needs to be studied and improved for each language separately. For example, Arabic is not particularly well functioning and creating false positives.
- It would have been great to select UK English as default EN instead of anytime we put a source file as English it understands US English and checks spelling by that which creates false positives.
- It was great to have the option to convert INDD to IDML but now it does not allow uploading INDD files thus we have to either get IDML from clients or convert ourselves but no one has an InDesign license waiting on each computer in a company.
- It's cloud-based, meaning it will likely work on any machine.
- Not overloaded with features, offers a clean UI.
- Relatively affordable.
- Sometimes it's quite slow, even despite an excellent Internet connection.
- Not all features are available for translators from the get-go, for example, only PM can upload/download a translation memory in TMX format which is quite a hassle if you have translators exporting everything into other tools.
- QA tools are somewhat weak, too many false-positives, which can be very annoying to ignore.
