AbacusLaw

AbacusLaw is fantastic for a small firm. You can easily organize files, track timekeepers, and use billing codes that transfer to billing programs to easily create invoices. I do not think we use AbacusLaw to its fullest extent, which is unfortunate on our part. There are so many more things I know it can do that would solve a number of issues (i.e. using the softphone feature to bill telephone calls to files).

Juris

LexisNexis Juris is well suited for our firm because of the case management integration (Time Matters). The ability to keep track of your time within a specific case without having to switch between applications is a huge timesaver.

Cons

AbacusLaw

  • AbacusLaw appears to drop billing codes randomly, which I am unsure if that is an issue on the Abacus side or the billing software side. It causes issues when the times comes for billing because codes have to be reentered.
  • Integration with the accounting server error if the server is randomly logged off. While it is an easy fix, it shouldn't be something that happens as frequently as it does.

Juris

  • LexisNexis Juris could allow for more time entry filters, such as filters for specific entries that include the same matter name.
  • Task and activity codes could be more streamlined.
  • LexisNexis Juris could provide more reporting options.

The support is generally good and relatively quick BUT when there is a new product or something they want you to buy, I have felt a bit harassed at that point by sales but when I have an issue I don't feel like support jumps on it as quick.

We have just used AbacusLaw but have looked into other similar products such as Clio and have been disappointed in what they offer compared to AbacusLaw.
