F5 Distributed Cloud Network Connect is a solution used to more easily and securely network across public clouds, hybrid clouds, and edge sites via an agile SaaS-based service. Users can rapidly connect instances deployed across multiple cloud regions and/or different cloud providers using Distributed Cloud Network Connect and its automated provisioning, integrated service stack, and end-to-end visibility. Cloud instances will be connected in minutes and always visible for rapid troubleshooting.
I don't have any direct experience with any of the other CDNs, so it's hard to say. Like any solution out there, each service will have its pros and cons. Some will fit your business needs more than others. Akamai is amongst the best and meets our business needs.
Akamai is a leader in CDN domain with adaptive media delivery and download delivery and it helps work by reducing the distance between your website and your target audience. It also provides 24X7 support services.
I am just getting into AWS at work and it will be difficult to supplant the incumbent Akamai solution as there is simply nothing wrong with it - from my point of view. I suspect we will be looking at integrating Akamai/AWS solutions in the future as the effort and or business …
Akamai offers sophisticated security and defense layers in addition to its content delivery network. Its focus on security is well known and beats offerings from AWS and Azure to punches. It redefined the cloud security market by extending its core offering.
We've used -- and considered -- a whole number of CDN offerings. The good news is that almost all of the CDN products on the market are terrific, and will pay for themselves via increased customer satisfaction and lower monthly hosting bills. For some cases, we're still more …
I have not evaluated or used any direct competitors for Akamai, so it's hard to say how it compares. All I know is that Akamai is very powerful and has now become an integral part of our existing set-up.
I haven't had much experience with other CDNs and to be honest I haven't heard of many more other than Akamai which just goes to show which one is the most trusted and proves to be the best. There are others out there, such as Cloudflare, that claim to provide a similar service …
CloudFlare and CloudFront are good for small sites where budgetary costs are the primary concern but Akamai Ion provides a new level of quality and performance.
CloudFlare is much easier to use. It is much cheaper and from our experience, it works so much better. The support staff at CloudFlare has always been helpful and will get on the phone when we need help. Also, CloudFlare helped us get set up on their platform in about an hour …
Similar, very similar to both. The main difference has been existing relationships with F5 as a partner and future potential for layering on future advanced services on top later. Often a difficult sell initially as both competitors have larger networks, but often can outclass …
This software as a service (SaaS) links, divides, and protects network traffic over one or more edge sites, data centers, and public clouds. It offers the adaptability needed to operate across many transit choices, such as the F5 Global Network, private corporate networks, and …
Aviatrix operates like a slightly different version of XC. Mostly it relies on routing, where cloud connect takes a whole stack into consideration. Not sure if XC can fully replace Aviatrix, but after a couple of implementations, it may become apparent. There are similar …
Akamai is a superior premium services offering if that's what you need from a CDN. For more typical use cases, we're often more often than not implementing MaxCDN, or integrated CDNs from cloud providers (e.g. CloudFront, Azure CDN, etc). If you find that Akamai's offerings are really what you need, and you are okay paying the premium, the services themselves are great. There's a reason they're used by major enterprises of all sizes, and used for hosting video content from the NFL, etc.
F5 Distributed Cloud Network Connect Would be incredibly useful when having to juggle multiple cloud providers. Also XC would be fantastic for standardization and consistency of the whole networking stack. It may be less useful for incredibly specialized cases where very specific traffic manipulation is needed. Any use-cases with heavy APM usage would have to be carefully considered as those features didn’t make it into XC yet.
Caching is one of the greatest benefits that Akamai allows for, saving time, money and experiencing the user experience.
Knowing they provide DDOS and other attack protection gives you peace of mind.
How finely you can tune all of the different settings available to you, from blocking IPs, cache settings, headers, redirects and even handling error statuses .
The support model needs a quite a bit of work. I personally have experienced an outage on the platform. due to mis-configureation Although the outage was due to engineer error it took over 2 hours before we were able to speak to an engineer
Proxy v2 protocol to allow our organization to capture and view the source IP address
The SaaS control plane and reporting analytics run on a high-speed cloud backend, so pages load quickly and complex global telemetry reports compile in just a few seconds. Furthermore, the platform acts as a lightweight overlay that offloads processing to F5's private backbone, meaning it won't introduce latency or slow down your integrated applications.
Their support documents are excellent and provide a lot of useful information for all their services. The only reason I didn't give them a 10 is that the time it takes for them to respond to an issue could be slightly faster.

This software as a service (SaaS) links, divides, and protects network traffic over one or more edge sites, data centers, and public clouds. It offers the adaptability needed to operate across many transit choices, such as the F5 Global Network, private corporate networks, and cloud provider linkages. Additionally, faster time to resolution and more effective issue management are achieved by end-to-end monitoring and troubleshooting.
