One of the oldest distributors of enterprise standard Hadoop.
Distribution is based on open source Hadoop even though customizations are done on top of that.
Faster updates and bug fixes to the products as they have Apache committers.
Central configuration and control of your Hadoop platform (but still needs improvements).

Cloudera Enterprise Data Hub 8.2

Cloudera is expanding with varied range of products and it looks to me as a challenging company and very competitive in the Big Data market. I would recommend to using the latest stable version as new features are added with each version and different bugs are fixed. As Big data is a constantly evolving so trying new Cloudera products helps businesses to stay competitive in the market domain as every big organization is now trying to move to Big Data.

Apache atlas, LinkedIn Datahub, Lyft Amundsen are some of the open-source tools we've explored before using Alation. Alation is way advanced over these tools and it has AI capabilities to help you write queries in an automated fashion. and learn more about the data in an easy way. It's very helpful in the data world.

I have not evaluated any similar products, and in fact, don't know of any direct competitor. Amazon's Redshift has a similar spirit.

The tools in Cloudera Enterprise have enabled us to perform seamless upgrades and monitor the clusters
Investing in the support enables us to engage with Cloudera to get access to required patches and backports in case of bugs which helps with wider adoption of open source software in the enterprise.
Voice of the customer enabled us to put forth requests for new features across various components.
