If your solution falls within their standard use case or you have Office 365 - then it makes total sense. If you need a lot of customization or have a really specific business process that causes you to deviate from the standard flow it usually makes more sense to create a custom solution

While the core of the product works very well, I would not purchase this solution again nor recommend it to other companies. Before being acquired they were a "startup" mode company building a competitively priced product but they were not able to capitalize on that. The solution was full of great features but management and implementation are poor. The solution is buggy, bulky, and not enterprise friendly, particularly for healthcare or other 24/7 operations that cannot afford downtime or management complications. The nail in the coffin is lack of support since the acquisition. Reaching support is a major challenge, and internal communication issues as well as system issues make it feel non-existent. I personally was completely unable to reach support for assistance the last time we had a problem, and our company has begun plans to migration away from the solution.

HID DigitalPersona (formerly Crossmatch)

  • Provides an extra layer of security, each person has a unique fingerprint.
  • Allows users to quickly log in to or switch computers on the fly, much faster than typing in a password.
  • Can be used with all kinds of programs. We utilize it with any program that requires authentication, and you can modify the software to work with several applications.

Cons

Azure Multi-Factor Authentication (Discontinued)

  • It can be difficult to work with when deviating off the standard use cases

HID DigitalPersona (formerly Crossmatch)

  • Easy for readers to get irredeemably dirty & need replacing.
  • Not a DigitalPerson problem, but users forget their passwords now, which is a pain when they're outside the organization & away from their DigitalPersona scanners
  • Group policy set-up was a little confusing.

Two things.1- because of the hardware investment we already made in all the fingerprint readers.2 - I have yet to see a competitor with a similar concept.

I think there are still fundamental enhancements needed to be added to the management consoles and I think there ought to be a Centralized, Windows Based "Thick" Management Application instead of individual utilities which vary from MMCs, Scripts, Wizards, etc.

Extremely poor; I've never encountered such. Professional Services completely dropped us for months. Crossmatch tech support seems like it has 3 techs tops! No response to emails, calls, the absolute worst! I will never recommend DP to anyone.

Could use tools to audit license usage at a more granular level as to allow an administrator to free up licenses from users whom seldom use their biometrics to login.

Honestly, they are very similar as is much of their offerings. It really comes down to which ecosystem are you already invested in? It doesn't make a lot of sense to try and interop with every cloud vendor - pick one and use them. While there used to be substantial differences in the cloud platforms, they are at basic parity now

We have used One Identity for software tokens. The Defender software tokens were originally included with our bundle and work pretty well for integration into the AnyConnect VPN client with Cisco. All that said, we use the two products for different applications and DP does what it does very well.

Return on Investment

Azure Multi-Factor Authentication (Discontinued)

  • Overall, it's a really good value compared to building a custom solution that you have to maintain

  • All other 2-factor authentication software we looked at were a subscription based platforms.
  • The DigitalPersona staff was very efficient in the implantation process which allowed our staff to move on to other issues.
  • The technical staff spends less time on account lockouts now since the end-user is now capable of resolving lockouts themselves.
