Gen-Y and younger will have no problem learning how to use CoStar but its not very intuitive for the older generations (they have to hunt and peck for what they are looking for and have no idea how to manipulate the reporting features)

Sage is not at all well suited for small companies who want an agile, nimble setup for quick moving situations and mobile use. These type of companies should look elsewhere such as a SaaS offering from another vendor. In addition Sage is very expensive both in its initial outlay and ongoing support.Medium and larger sized companies benefit from a Sage install much more than the smaller constructor. Having the modules all work in unison is important when a company is of a certain size as is having the long tenured support structure. In addition Sage requires the terminals services setup to use it remotely and the larger companies are more likely to have the infrastructure and support for that type of setup

- There are a lot of ways to drill down into information. The ability to run inquiries that can be easily exported into Excel is incredibly useful.
- The help desk is very helpful. There are multiple ways to get a hold of someone and it is extremely useful.
- The knowledgebase articles are very helpful and provide a lot of great detail.

Cons
CoStar Real Estate Manager
- In our market (Portland, OR), not enough users implement the tools that could make CoStar so much better. For example, I specialize in medical but brokers and owners don't take the time to mark medical as an approved use in their buildings so I have to search much longer and cross-reference the data by contacting the brokers directly.
- I find it really annoying that when I download documents CoStar doesn't use smart technology to automatically name my files. It is especially irritating since every piece of marketing we post to CoStar has a relevant file name yet when we download the same file we have to rename it.

- Although Sage is much easier to use with the new upgrade, it still could use improvement with load times with invoice searches.
- Sage 300 could also include drone uploads to view inventory snapshots.
- Upgrades can also be less complicated and not require higher-level support to implement.

Sage is somewhat easy to use as far as its simplicity, however, when I first started using it I really wished there were more training materials available. As I did research to figure out what resources were there to learn how to use the paid software, all I found were courses you have to pay for. In my personal opinion, I don't think you should have to pay to learn how to use a software you bought.

Their support services are strong once you start talking to them. There is often a long wait for support if you try to call them on the phone. I also find it challenging to do support via e-mail because of the time lag and the simplex form of communication.

Alternatives Considered
CoStar Real Estate Manager
There is literally not one good thing that I can say about CoStar. They charge my card $450/month because I signed a one-year contract. They provide very little data and properties and most of the time it is inaccurate. Their customer service is atrocious. They overpromise, underdeliver. STAY away from using Costar!

We currently have Sage in place which handles the majority of our business needs on the back end, but compared to some others that are on the market like Builder Trend, it does lack the client facing side of the house. To make it a better product, a client facing portal would be best so they can be up to date.

- Since CoStar has linked with LoopNet we have had fewer bad data calls. By which I mean old data from LoopNet that was available to the general public is now more regularly updated through CoStar so we have less confusion with our clients.

- Sage has completely changed our culture at my company. At first, our field reports were not detailed, as they were not giving us quantities to actually track the job. We had no clue what the progress of activities was, because it was a general 'How are things going?' "Good" conversation. Now we track our progress quantitatively.
- We have been able to track and organize our change events to actually recognize revenue on particular jobs. We had so many Change events being lost and this simplified that. It allows us to pursue these events and actually recognize revenue. Overall this is an amazing benefit of Sage.
- As an organization, we have been able to identify losing bid items and avoid those in the futures.
