D2iQ Mesosphere
Mesosphere is well suited for orchestrating workloads. It supports Docker as a container as well as support others. It is highly suitable for running resilient and auto recovering big data/application containers. Mesosphere has proven time and again to be production ready at a massive scale. It supports native single button/API call scale up and scale down and supports various deployment patterns like Blue-Green and others.

After embracing IBM Cloud Kubernetes Service, it allowed us to run applications in a cloud provider-agnostic way and made it possible to introduce new products and the infrastructure to scale each autonomous team's idea. Migrating to IBM Cloud Kubernetes Service provided the flexibility and speed to deliver new products while significantly reducing the operational overhead.

Pros
D2iQ Mesosphere
- Deploying mesosphere and friends (e.g. marathon)
- Deploying applications (e.g. Cassandra, Jenkins, Spark) on to mesosphere
- Providing value add components such as velocity, and marathon-lb

- IBM has a strong focus on serverless and Kubernetes. This shows in the platform. Deploying containers to Kubernetes was very easy.
- Deploying a Kubernetes cluster through the GUI is very easy and quick. On top of that, IBM Cloud offers a single node cluster for Free.
- Container Registry is a very good product for managing container images. Integration with Kubernetes was seemless.
- Portability. To transition from Google Cloud Kubernetes to IBM Cloud Kubernetes took almost no effort. We mostly use the CLI and the standard tools such as kubectl were present.

Cons
D2iQ Mesosphere
- Setting up is a bit of a hassle, especially ZooKeeper state management and mesos and marathon quorum.
- Occasionally, I observed some failures when deploying something onto Marathon. Logging or detailed error reporting can help.
- Stale containers and inconsistent states resultant of the cluster failure are hard to solve and need a complete system restart to get it back to normal state.

- Currently, the pricing for the instances is quite high (30% higher than major vendors), so that needs to be worked on.
- VM spinup times are slower than most major cloud vendors, if GCP only takes 60 seconds on average, IBM Cloud takes more than 10 minutes. This should be faster and could use more improvement
- While providing a barebones dashboard for Kubernetes is great, I believe having the IKS service to have its own managed dashboard is better than providing the upstream Kube's dashboard.

We have our application running on a CentOS compartment on IBM Cloud Kubernetes Service. We have been utilizing the help since IBM Cloud initially dispatched. We liked the adaptability and versatility that IBM Cloud Kubernetes Service give us. Since we are tiny, the Kubernetes administration is just utilized at present inside my venture bunch.

The self-guided support was solid, and there are plenty of online videos to guide first time users, but I think one area of improvement is a faster way to transfer a large quantity of files from our local machine to the cloud for storage (Aspera)

Online training is really an important resource for using these tools. IBM's help center is rich in useful information and tips. Also, external guides and tutorials are available (e.g. on youtube), but I followed only IBM ones and I had no difficulties.

Ease of use. Very intuitive. We have been looking for a product that allows us to orchestrate our docker containers in a way where it allows us to effectively scale our applications to production. It also provides us a way of monitoring all our infrastructure in a very clear concise way.

I happen to like mesosphere because it integrates well with a Jenkins based workflow, Deis is a little more Heroku like and it's not clear how to fit that model into a continuous-integration process. Kubernetes has also been criticized for being complicated.

We mainly selected [IBM Cloud Kubernetes Service] because IBM fabric blockchain service is mostly compatible with it. To have all the infrastructure in a single cloud to get the best output we selected the [IBM Cloud Kubernetes Service].

IBM's CKS does not offers automatic autoscaling nor vertical scaling (automatic). Other services like Google Kubernetes Engine scales up and down very well

- I see mesosphere as having a positive impact overall on the industry trending Docker and containers in general.
- Seeing how mesosphere helps and simplifies things for the developer and ops, it is definitely a game changer.
- Native support of on demand scaling up and down as per the need is one of the best features.

- Very cost effective and horizontally scalable serivces.
- More predictable than spinning up new virtual servers for expansion (Charged by API).
- Adaptation of all standards including Docker, MongoDB, Node-RED, allows leveraging of existing and Open Source code more reliably to reduce costs.
