MD shelves which we also use, are a great, smaller alternative to SAN for backup solutions and small projects. The PS series and the Compellent shelves are powerful SAN units, with nothing between them really, apart from the pricing.

Given its IO performance and bandwidth limitations, deploying this system in an enterprise-level setting would be impractical. However, it can effectively serve in non-production environments where demands are lower. Despite its unsuitability for heavy-duty tasks, the system offers valuable features such as straightforward configuration for data replication to its array partner. This replication capability enhances data backup processes, providing a reliable solution for safeguarding critical information in less demanding operational scenarios.
Dell PowerVault suits SMB needs, VMware datastores, and backup targets where cost and simplicity matter. It's less ideal for latency-sensitive workloads, or environments needing sophisticated replication and automation.
It's reliable and familiar to Dell-centric teams. Purpose-built modern arrays from Pure or HPE offer a noticeably smoother experience for the same core tasks.
We picked Dell EqualLogic PS Series based on combination price/capacity/performance parameters. Unfortunately, in my opinion, not all of what we were promised came true.
Pure Storage is much better overall. If you need to have a 7.2K solution or an array where you have several speeds needed (7K, 10K, or SSD) then Powervault is good. It is also much cheaper than Pure Storage.
