Similar, very similar to both. The main difference has been existing relationships with F5 as a partner and future potential for layering on future advanced services on top later. Often a difficult sell initially as both competitors have larger networks, but often can outclass …

Aviatrix operates like a slightly different version of XC. Mostly it relies on routing, where cloud connect takes a whole stack into consideration. Not sure if XC can fully replace Aviatrix, but after a couple of implementations, it may become apparent. There are similar …

Another option was own scripting or maintaining the end users in the backend (vcenter). This costs to much time to maintain (scripting) and has a big change of a Security breach. It was not an option for us either way.

Hyper-V is built on a Windows platform that includes services not needed for the virtual environment adding overhead. With vCloud I'm not required to maintain a host OS or it's updates. The requirement to maintain storage devices is no longer needed with vCloud as well.

vCloud Director is definitely my favorite as far as cloud managers. The only thing that compares is Cisco UCS Director, but it has slightly different functionality and purpose. I understand why a lot of clients still go with vCloud Director even though VMware intends to sunset …

F5 Distributed Cloud Network Connect Would be incredibly useful when having to juggle multiple cloud providers. Also XC would be fantastic for standardization and consistency of the whole networking stack. It may be less useful for incredibly specialized cases where very specific traffic manipulation is needed. Any use-cases with heavy APM usage would have to be carefully considered as those features didn’t make it into XC yet.

For a CSP it's the best choice. For internal uses, even in presence of different business units, it's not so easy and flexible to manage. It assures a high level of multitenancy, often not needed for internal purposes. But it could be used in this case, just not created for these purposes. Network management is great.

Pros

  • Centralized ingress for our existing on-prem BIG-IP devices
  • Application visibility to address end-to-end visibility into the end-user experience

  • Manages multi-tenancy very well. You can setup resource pools of compute, network, and storage that are independent of each other.
  • Easy to create and manage multiple environments.
  • Has lease management technology and can easily set leases and expire them based on pre-configured time frames.

Cons
  • The support model needs a quite a bit of work. I personally have experienced an outage on the platform. due to mis-configureation Although the outage was due to engineer error it took over 2 hours before we were able to speak to an engineer
  • Proxy v2 protocol to allow our organization to capture and view the source IP address

vCloud Director don't have any new feature, my feeling says that vCloud Director not become primary product of VMware, if this happen vCloud Director will be terminated. VMware should provide cloud management platform with agnostic with another virtualization technology example openstack, hyperv also with hyperscaller that will be have good feature

The SaaS control plane and reporting analytics run on a high-speed cloud backend, so pages load quickly and complex global telemetry reports compile in just a few seconds. Furthermore, the platform acts as a lightweight overlay that offloads processing to F5's private backbone, meaning it won't introduce latency or slow down your integrated applications.

  • vCloud Director requires less IT administration. For example, there isn't a need to maintain esx host. or storage administration like creating luns.
  • A negative impact is cost. vCloud Director has a monthly cost for storage, processor core, memory, and licensing.
