GateKeeper Proximity vs. SplashID

The best uses that we have found for GateKeeper have been for medical offices. We have a customer that uses mobile workstations when doing patient workups, and this has enabled them to step away from the station, evaluate the patient, and then go back to their mobile workstation without having to log in via password since they were within a set range the PC didn't lock. If they had walked more than 5 ft from their workstation, it would lock by Gatekeeper Proximity so the private data on the PC would not be at risk.

SplashID is really only well suited if you are looking to store passwords offline on your own server. There is no risk of them being leakedin a large scale breach of SplashID, but then it is only up to your security. Since it is not stored online, there is also not a way to restore the master password, so don't forget it!

• Tabbing through password creation is not intuitive
• The app is slow at unlocking to reveal passwords
• There are a limited number of fields you can use for each password making it difficult if you have lots of information to store about one app
• It is not easy to categorize passwords and stay orginized

SplashID is pretty usable, but there are definitely some key downfalls. Like I previously mentioned, it lacks easy organization. It is also not very user friendly to enter passwords. The password generation tool could use some additional options to remove certain special characters because on more than one occasion I have had to adjust a password to remove a prohibited special character.

They always answer the phone and someone is available to help. Emails are answered immediately.

By far the most reasonably priced solution. The customer support is top-notch.

SplashID is not nearly as comprehensive as LastPass. LastPass is much easier to orginize and create folders for certain categories. It is also easier to launch logins stored in the vault. The only benefit SplashID provides is that you can store passwords offline. SplashID is better on the pocket book because it is a one time fee where LastPass is subscription based.

• Although the number seems small at first, minutes saved per day not having to log in / having proximity unlock add up over time. Each user's gatekeeper pays for itself over the year just by shaving a few minutes of time off logins each day.
• Training time with end users generally takes 15 minutes or less.

• SplashID keeps our passwords off the cloud
• SplashID allows us to have unique passwords for each app without having to remember them or store them in an unsecured manner
