We moved from VMware w/ Veeam to Hyper-V w/ Microsoft Data Protection Manager. Each backup solution worked well for its respective workload. We made the jump to AHV on Nutanix. MSFT DPM wasn’t compatible and HYCU was a better value than Veeam.
This fits Nutanix better than anything I have found. HYCU clearly focuses on personalized service. You can email, call or open a web ticketed, depending on your urgency.
I have used several backup programs, I selected 2 just to be brief. The best thing I see with HYCU over Veeam is that it is much more difficult for an attacker if inside the network to gain access to the backups and objects saved in the backup storage. The best part about HYCU …
LiveVault is the only product we have used. The reason is that we chose it initially was the fact you can restore individual files. Also that the data is transferred offsite to a secure data center and data is backed up again, providing a second offsite copy.
It’s well suited for Nutanix AHV data protection and includes the ability for immutable backups via WORM policy. I’m unsure of its performance in environments that use Hyper-V OR VMware for virtualization. The use of tiered backups without additional policies are great when creating new VMs, even automatically assigning a default backup policy to ensure that all workloads have at least a minimal level of data protection
Our company was originally with VaultLogix which was taken over by LiveVault. The transition to the new product was not as smooth as expected and presented us with issues especially with a restore. Restore and what files needed to be included in the backup policy were not communicated to us correctly and it was not until a customer's server failed that we found out we couldn't do a restore because we were missing files that were needed for a complete restore.
I don't believe it works very well for backups of virtual servers. Installation of the product is user-friendly.
Very simple interface. Can learn it in a day. The instances where I needed a little hand holding, I just called support and they assisted immediately. That's the best of both worlds.
I have had several requests, and issues with the rollout and deployment of HYCU in our production environment. The HYCU team of support and developers have met each issue with importance and some kind of resolution or explanation of help. They have been so supportive even in the not so easy ones. That says something for their product and team behind it.
