Overall Satisfaction with HYCU

We use HYCU for on-Prem, cloud backups, and DR. The solution backs up our data and VMs to an on-Prem storage target, then copies the backup data to Azure. We’re able to restore data and spin up VMs in Azure even if our on-prem site is offline. We’re able to spin up VMs in case of DR within an hour or two.

  • Reporting isn’t straightforward and as customizable as I’d like
  • Including M365 backups without additional cost would be a big value add for us

In a Nutanix AHV environment, it’s probably the best solution out there. It checks the most important boxes for us - immutable backups, on-Prem and off site backup storage targets, Azure DR. Policy based backups make administration a breeze. Pricing is cost effective. For the most part, support is able to take care of our needs, but better guidance around creating an effective and robust DR solution is needed.
We moved from VMware w/ Veeam to Hyper-V w/ Microsoft Data Protection Manager. Each backup solution worked well for its respective workload. We made the jump to AHV on Nutanix. MSFT DPM wasn’t compatible and HYCU was a better value than Veeam.

It’s well suited for Nutanix AHV data protection and includes the ability for immutable backups via WORM policy. I’m unsure of its performance in environments that use Hyper-V OR VMware for virtualization. The use of tiered backups without additional policies are great when creating new VMs, even automatically assigning a default backup policy to ensure that all workloads have at least a minimal level of data protection.
