IBM Cloud Private vs. Redis Cloud

IBM Cloud Private is an ideal platform for companies to accelerate their business growth. It helps in reducing the cost of IT and operations while delivering a great customer experience. Redis Cloud is very well suited for scenarios where fast data access is required or somewhat unstructured data needs to be stored. For us, it has worked very well for user session storage. However, if you have large amounts of structured data that is not frequently accessed, Redis is not the solution and a traditional relational database is likely more appropriate.

• Capacity On Demand to scale up and down environments
• SaaS model allows our team to have less involvement in managing or controlling the underlying cloud infrastructure including network, servers, operating systems, storage, or even individual application capabilities.
• SaaS model allows our team to worry less about upgrades, fix packs, environment support etc.

• Bluemix/IBM Cloud UI can be better
• Changing Brand name from Bluemix to IBM Cloud, as we are habituated to Bluemix more

• The only area of improvement I have found is the documentation is sometimes lacking and could be a little more comprehensive.

With VMware cloud, each VMware Cloud customer must have an SDDC account(VMC) as well as a general AWS account. The two accounts must be linked for the service to work which is a tiresome thing to do for some clients but with IBM Cloud Private all these issues are solved.

I've used Heroku Redis and RedisToGo. Redis Cloud has the best free/developer plan, and we have never had an issue.

• Redis Cloud is very affordable and therefore the cost is negligible when compared to the benefits— immediate ROI with very little startup costs.
