ITRS Geneos vs. Preseem vs. SolarWinds Engineer's Toolset

ITRS Geneos is well suited in any situation where uptime is mission critical.

For any ISP that wants to know the QoE their customers experience while using their service, Preseem is an excellent choice. The rate plan shaping also makes sure the connection feels fast, even if the speeds are being 100% utilized by the customer. This is not a DPI service though, so you can't classify or shape certain services over others. All traffic is treated fairly, and small flows are moved to the front of the queue to make sure interactive traffic like VOIP, DNS, and gaming is working well ahead of large downloads.

I have found the toolset especially useful for scanning subnets to discover devices, and for setting up temporary real-time monitors when we are troubleshooting or setting up new connections. The most useful aspect has been the ability to apply the tools to help troubleshoot and pinpoint intermittent issues. More general tools like Orion often do not have the granularity to detect issues like intermittent packet loss which are especially impactful to applications like Voice. The toolset gives us another level of capability to dig into issues.

• The tool could stand to be a little less engineered, but really the ROI isn't there for them to do so. I don't think most of us care about how pretty it looks, more so does it work and can I figure it out in relatively short order.

• The unifying component that is intended to be the initial interface to the tools seems clunky. I prefer to start the tools individually rather than using it.
• The port scanner could use some improvements to make it easier to use.

ITRS Geneos support is well managed by its wide variety of options like live chat, query submissions, 24/7 on-call support, self help and of course well-documented details about its features and troubleshooting methods. ITRS Geneos is being used by many big size organizations because it is a stable product with a good pool of knowledge available about it.

Every tool that competes in the market with ITRS Geneos has its own capabilities and shortcomings. For our project, ITRS Geneos stands out since it is a stable product with a long history of serving large organizations with huge number of components to monitor. ITRS Geneos has upgraded itself to a new and better GUI interface and has offered integration with different tools.

Any Amplifi product can show client infrastructure usage and date. the Dream Machine is perfect because it has built-in everything for the client to manage his local network.

I haven't compared any tools similar to SolarWinds Engineer's Toolset. This might be because I'm pretty biased when it comes to monitoring, and reporting solutions. I've found that SolarWinds provides the biggest bang for the buck in my opinion. I'm sure there are other solutions on the market that compete, but I haven't tried any of them because I've been very satisfied with SolarWinds.
